HUYẾT HOA – IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF EACH PHILOSOPHICAL LAYER OF LÝ ĐÔNG A
A Philosophical–Revolutionary Analysis
Huyết Hoa is one of the most important philosophical–revolutionary texts of Lý Đông A. The work does not discuss revolution merely in the political sense; it is a map of ideas about culture, history, human existence, and the destiny of the Vietnamese nation in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The ideas in Huyết Hoa can be divided into four major chapters, each carrying its own philosophical layer yet forming a unified system.
The opening of Huyết Hoa centers on the hidden strength of the Vietnamese people: He views history as a stream of transmitted energy, not a sequence of events. From that hidden strength, people can “stand up and prepare for the new era.” He foresaw that the 21st century would be the time when Vietnam must redefine its identity and its place in the world. This phrase is not merely about age. “Forty” symbolizes a historical cycle, the moment when a nation enters a turning point and must reshape its destiny. The “people of Forty” are: Here, Lý Đông A emphasizes that every renewal requires a pioneering generation, one that carries the “master force” of its era. “Huyết” in Huyết Hoa is not merely blood; it is: This chapter lays the foundation for the entire work: Without willpower, there is no nation. Lý Đông A uses the German term Kulturkampf to emphasize: He sees culture as the root of all change. If culture is not elevated, political or economic reforms remain superficial. Thus, he views the revival of Vietnamese culture as a contribution not only to the nation but to the world. “Hoa” symbolizes: If “Huyết” is the hidden strength, then “Hoa” is the blossoming of that strength into civilization. This is the most important social-philosophical section of Huyết Hoa. Lý Đông A divides the nation into three strata: This is a model of historical succession, stressing that national development cannot be interrupted. He emphasizes: He asserts: It is the masses and the youth who are the “base layer of the nation.” Therefore, every revolution must: This is a remarkably progressive socio-democratic view for his era. This is not a call for violence. It is an observation of historical law: He stresses that sovereignty is never granted — it must be reclaimed through willpower. Lý Đông A sets extremely high standards: A leader must be simultaneously: If one of the three is missing, that person cannot lead the era. Theory: understanding the essence of the era. Action: turning ideas into reality. Organization: creating structures that sustain and develop. This is a comprehensive leadership model, far beyond emotional or power-based leadership. One of his deepest philosophical lines: He warns that a nation focused only on materialism will lose creativity and autonomy. He envisions a generation that is: Not only destroying the old, but building the new. Viewed as a whole, Huyết Hoa is not a poem or a simple manifesto. It is a design blueprint of ideas consisting of four layers: 1. Huyết – Willpower and the hidden strength of the nation 2. Hoa – Culture and the blossoming of intellect 3. Generations – The architecture of historical succession 4. Revolution – The reconstruction of the nation The work delivers a message that transcends time: A nation can only be revitalized when it awakens its inner strength, elevates its culture, empowers its youth, and builds a leadership model of intellect–action–organization. That is why Huyết Hoa remains relevant into the 21st century. I. CHAPTER 1 – HUYẾT: THE HIDDEN STRENGTH OF THE NATION
