MISS OUR MOTHERLAND
On lonely afternoons in the North,
I look toward the South and miss you, Mother.
The months and years keep drifting on,
Drifting till my hair turns silver.
The air stands trembling, close to breaking,
The wind returns like a quiet sob.
Where is the homeland once so splendid,
Soft as the fragrance in your hair?
Farewell to the mourning Southern land,
I fall into the fate of life in exile.
Each night the sorrow rises in me,
Bitterness choking every passing day.
Moon and stars once symbols of trust—
Who betrayed them?
This gentle sky and earth—
Who set them burning?
Who cast this darkness over our mountains and rivers?
Mother… do you know?
Still burning deep inside me
Are the words you whispered holding my hand:
“The sunlight will return and chase the darkness,
And love, and freedom, will remain forever…
My child… forever.”
Now as the sunset slowly fades,
What can I think but how I miss you, Mother?
The drifting years have weathered me,
My wandering hair grown tired and grey.
My devastated homeland—I still weep for it.
I keep a light burning for the day I return.
And every pair of stars in the night sky
Shines like your gentle eyes.
On lonely afternoons in the North,
I look toward the South and miss you, Mother.

The shimmering heavens reflect your tender gaze.
My soul trembles—I miss your gentle eyes.
Beloved Mother…
I love you…
I miss you so much.
