🌐 THẾ HỆ NỐI TIẾP — ABOUT ME

A journey between two cultures, languages, systems, and ways of thinking

I am a refugee born in Saigon, Vietnam, and raised in the Netherlands from the age of two. My Vietnamese identity was carried forward through my parents and siblings, while Dutch society taught me structure, flat hierarchy, and the freedom to think independently. Growing up, I had a carefree youth — the kind that allows a young mind to explore anything it becomes curious about.

From early on, I learned to switch between two worlds. At school, I was Dutch and spoke Dutch. At home, I was Vietnamese and spoke Vietnamese.

This daily cognitive switching became a training ground: two cultures, two languages, two mental frameworks. It shaped how I perceive systems, identity, and meaning.

FROM ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL

As a Gen X child, I witnessed the shift from analogue life to digital thinking. In the ’90s, our family bought its first computer. My younger brother dove deep into systems and technology, and I followed along, learning from him while my own curiosity moved toward history and identity.

I wanted to understand why we were refugees, how the Vietnam War shaped our lives, and what it meant to grow up in a country far from our origins. Much of this I learned from my father, from books, and from documentaries.

LANGUAGE, HERITAGE, AND INNER SOVEREIGNTY

During this period, I taught myself to read and write Vietnamese more deeply, and I began understanding Hán-Nôm, our ancient script. Its multi-layered, compressed meaning opened a new dimension of cultural understanding.

Later, Buddhist teachings and meditation helped me explore the inner self — clarity, responsibility, and sovereignty.
