THEY TRADE
(to be released on 30 April 2027)
They trade the hills, they trade the land,
They trade the pain of every man.
They trade the truth, they trade the law,
Turning the whole world upside down.
They trade our hopes, they trade our tears,
They trade the weight of all these years.
They trade our lives, our bodies worn,
Digging the darkness even more.
They trade the shores, they trade the seas,
They trade a child’s pure memories.
They trade the cries of those who plead,
Turning each day to harsher need.
One day you’ll stand on higher ground,
Look back and see the sorrow drown.
Crowded streets in dust and smoke,
Where people fight for just one hope.
And your heart will shake, your breath will break,
Seeing the poor with all they take.
Those who suffer, those cast down—
They are our people, all around.
They eat from every side around.
They take the big, they take the small,
Till no one’s left to breathe at all.
They trade our rights, our written laws,
They trade compassion just because.
They trade our names, our dignity,
Even the truth and empathy.
One day you’ll stand on higher ground,
Look back and see the sorrow drown.
Crowded streets in dust and smoke,
Where people fight for just one hope.
And your heart will shake, your breath will break,
Seeing the poor with all they take.
Those who suffer, those cast down—
They are our people, all around.
They feast on lives, on blood and tears,
They laugh above the starving homes.
They play with pride, with spite, with fear,
As if tomorrow won’t be here.
They trade the rich, divide the poor,
They cheat each other even more.
They trade their souls till eyes grow cold—
How long must all this pain unfold?
They trade the power, trade the throne,
They shake the nation to the bone.
They trade the hills, the land we own,
They trade our grief, our very home.
They trade the mountains, rivers wide—
The whole land sold on every side.
They trade the mountains, rivers wide—
The whole land sold on every side.
They trade the mountains, rivers wide—
The whole land sold on every side.
(The whole land sold on every side.)

“Chúng Đi Buôn” (“We Trade”) is a satirical and powerful protest song by composer Phan Văn Hưng, written in 2002. It exposes a society where those in power turn the nation into a commodity for personal gain. The song depicts scenes of trading power, fame, conscience, and even the homeland itself — as part of a tightly organized system of corruption. With an ironic yet piercing tone, the song condemns those who exploit the people to enrich themselves and calls for a spirit of resistance.
The commercial recording of the song was released on April 21, 2022.
